Up for Debate: A discussion of women’s rights for the coming federal election

Up For Debate Sharegraphic 2Launched today with a press conference in Ottawa, Up for Debate: The Alliance for Women’s Rights is a network of over 100 women’s organizations and allies from across Canada who have come together to raise awareness about women’s rights in the lead up to the next federal election (scheduled for October 2015).

Described as a “pan-Canadian conversation on gender justice and equality,” the campaign calls on all the federal political parties to make meaningful commitments to address violence against women and girls, women’s inequality and supporting women’s leadership, both in Canada and around the world.

The leaders of the federal political parties are asked to commit to a federal leaders’ debate on issues identified by women. Individuals are invited to sign up to indicate their support for such a debate.

In addition to the call for a debate, the campaign is intended to spark conversations on how to best approach issues of interest to women and how these might best be incorporated in federal policy.

The Up For Debate campaign is on Twitter at @UpForDebate2015 and on Facebook.
